Oscars 2011 or The B.S. Awards: Who/What Should Have Won

The 83rd Annual Academy Awards, brought to you by: the mute button. Seriously, Fox Movies, can these ads get any more disturbing? (Anne Hathaway. Also sponsored by the mute button.)

So the Oscars aired at a little past 3 a.m. in Beirut. Was it worth the overnight? Well, here's what we thought. We won't attempt to argue, because our choices are quite obvious. They were better than the rest. 'Nuff said.

MC's Best Actress in a Supporting Role: Hailee Steinfeld for a stunning performance in True Grit
We thought Mattie Ross was even more convincing than Nina Sayers. Not only was she not nominated for Best Actress, she didn't even win Best Supporting Actress? Bullshit.

MC's Best Adapted Screenplay: The Coen Brothers' True Grit
In what world is it acceptable for True Grit to lose to The Social Network for Best Adapted Screenplay? Bullshit.

MC's Best Original Screenplay: Christopher Nolan's Inception
Inception loses Best Original Screenplay to The King's Speech?! What? Look, I liked The King's Speech, but it was no where near the best. Bullshit.

MC's Best Director: Darren Aronofsky for Black Swan
So he tells us a touching story about his mom seeing some play and ringing him up with a movie concept, and now it's a legitimate win for The King's Speech? Bullshit!

MC's Best Actor in a Leading Role: Jeff Bridges for True Grit
Jeff Bridges loses to Colin fucking Firth?! How did that happen? Bullshit! Jeff Bridges should have won by a landslide. Did you people even see the film?

MC's Best Picture: Inception/Black Swan/True Grit
Take your pick. Any of these three brilliant films would have beaten The King's Speech, we think. But hey, wouldn't want to piss off the queen eh?

Nice touch opening the Best Score award with a classic Star Wars tune.
Loved seeing Florence of Florence and the Machine on stage, brief as her performance was.
Was anyone else totally unaware of Gwyneth Paltrow's newfound country singing skills? "Stick to acting" says Heavy G. We're going to have to agree.
The only major award we (more or less) approve of was Best Actress.
Otherwise, totally disappointing. They call it the event of the season, we call it staying up late for nothing. Yet another great victory for terrible decision-making.

  1. FUCKING 100%. It was NOT worth the overnight.

  2. Awesome!! everything!!!

  3. anne hathaway and james franco being the hosts already ruined the whole party. hathaway has a sense of humor, but not as much as she thinks she does. and franco is an incredible actor but a person who talks stupid (duno if a stupid person). he seriously made a few silly jokes not worth laughing to, before going in to the theatre. besides that, the movies of the past yr were nt that great. inception, black swan, and a few others were the only ones worth watching. the rest is jst the usual hollywood commercial bs.
