Follow-up: 6 Underrated Characters in Fiction

As a follow-up to our 6 Overrated Characters in Fiction post, here is a list of fictional characters we think are underrated, along with reasonable explanations for why each of these characters makes the list.

1. Cyril Proudbottom from The Wind in the Willows: for breaking Mr. Toad out of jail, and being the funniest/coolest horse I've ever met.

2. Stephane Miroux from The Science of Sleep: for being the most tripped-out dude in the history of cinema.

3. Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory: for constantly making Alice's Adventures in Wonderland references, and for wanting to solve the Middle East crisis by building an exact replica of the promised land in Mexico.
4. Bartleby from Bartleby, the Scrivener: for being possibly the first man in literature to share our views on work. "I would prefer not to." As would we, Bartleby. As would we.

5. Nearly Headless Nick (a.k.a. Sir Nicholas de Mimsy Porpington) from the Harry Potter books: because he is played by John Cleese in the film. JOHN CLEESE!

6. Sancho Panza (right) from The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha: because he is often thought of as the side-kick, when in truth he is an extremely loyal friend and a positive guiding force for Don Quixote. Also, he puts up with a whole lot of sh**!
